Metal MCP connects AI assistants directly to your Metal workspace. Ask Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, or Cursor to find investors, map warm intros, update your pipeline, or prepare you for a call, and it happens in Metal without you opening the app.It is built on MCP (Model Context Protocol), the open standard for connecting AI models to software. Any MCP-compatible client works, and teams building custom agents or internal tooling can build on the same connection.

MCP is an access layer, not a separate product. Everything it does runs on the same proprietary data, relevance scoring, and network intelligence that powers the Metal app, so results stay consistent wherever you work.
Search the market by stage, sector, geography, thesis, or recent activity. Pull full investor profiles, check sizes, portfolio patterns, and co-investor relationships. Your assistant can research companies, their funding history, and founders, or find the investors behind any founder and the deals a specific partner has personally led.

Before you start, sign in to Metal at app.metal.so in your browser. Any setup that asks for a server URL uses https://api.metal.so/mcp. It starts with api, not app, so copy it rather than typing it.

Find Metal in the directory
In Claude, open Settings → Connectors, search for Metal Fundraising, and click Connect.

Sign in and choose your organization
Sign in with your Metal account and select the organization you want to connect. Access is limited to that organization.

Approve permissions
Read and write access are granted separately. Start read-only if you prefer, and turn on write access when you want your assistant to update your pipeline, tags, and notes.
ChatGPT adds Metal as a custom app, which needs Developer mode. It works on ChatGPT web with a Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, or Edu plan. On Business and Enterprise, your workspace admin may need to turn Developer mode on for you first.

Turn on Developer mode
Go to Settings → Apps → Advanced settings and switch on Developer mode.

Create the Metal app
In Settings → Apps, click Create. Name it Metal, paste the server URL, choose OAuth for authentication, and click Create.

Sign in
Sign in to Metal, select your organization, and approve the permissions you want.

Switch it on in a chat
Start a new chat, click +, and turn on Metal.

Open the gear menu, select MCP servers, then Add server. Name it metal, choose Streamable HTTP, paste the server URL, and save.

Open Cursor Settings → MCP and add a new server, or paste this into ~/.cursor/mcp.json:
Click the sign-in prompt next to metal and finish signing in to Metal in your browser.
Any app that supports MCP works. In its connector settings, add a custom connector named Metal, paste the server URL, and sign in when prompted.
To check it works, start a new chat and try: “Use Metal to find seed-stage fintech investors in the UK.”Setup takes about two minutes. You can remove access at any time from your app’s connector settings.
Your assistant sees only what your Metal account can see, within the organization you selected at connection time.
Granular Permissions
Read and write access are separate scopes, so you control exactly what your assistant is allowed to change.
Your fundraising configuration (stage, sector, geography, existing investors) is managed in the Metal app and is not editable through MCP. This keeps the setup that drives your recommendations deliberate and in one place.
“Authorization with Metal failed.” This is usually a stale or half-finished earlier connection attempt. Remove the Metal connector from your client entirely, then reconnect from scratch following the steps above.The connector won’t authenticate. Double-check the server URL is https://api.metal.so/mcp. Entering app.metal.so instead of api.metal.so is the most common cause of failed connections.Codex: Metal is listed but can’t do anything. Run codex mcp login metal again, then start a new session. Codex only loads Metal when a session starts.ChatGPT: there’s no Create button. Developer mode is off. Turn it on in Settings → Apps → Advanced settings, or ask your workspace admin to enable it.Still stuck?
