# Mock Calls

> Rehearse every investor meeting before it happens.

***

Most founders walk into investor calls without any real practice. At best, they run through the deck or ask a co-founder to play the investor. Neither prepares you for how a specific investor will run the conversation: what they'll probe, where they'll push back, and which parts of your story they'll care about most.

Mock Calls give you that practice. Metal uses its [Investor Memory Layer](https://docs.metal.so/investor-memory-layer.md), its proprietary intelligence on how each investor thinks and invests, together with what it knows about your company, to run a live call the way that investor would. When the call ends, you get a detailed analysis of how it went and what to change before the real meeting.

Navigate to **Communications → Mock Calls** to access the view.

#### How It Works

> [card] 1. Choose Your Meeting
>
> Select the investor you're preparing for and set how long the call should run: 15, 30, 45 or 60 minutes, or a custom length.

> [card] 2. Set the Focus
>
> Rehearse a first meeting, or go deep on one topic such as pricing, traction or product, so the call covers what matters most.

> [card] 3. Add Context
>
> Tell Metal anything that matters for this meeting, such as a concern the investor raised before or a topic you want them to push on.

> [card] 4. Take the Call
>
> Metal runs a live voice call the way the investor would, asking questions grounded in their thesis, portfolio and investing patterns.

During the call, the investor asks one question at a time, follows up when an answer is vague, and paces the conversation to fit the time you've set. A live transcript and timer sit alongside, and as time runs low, the investor moves to closing questions.

> [!TIP]
>
> Take mock calls in a quiet room, ideally with headphones. Background noise can be picked up as speech and interrupt the conversation.

#### Your Call Analysis

When the call ends, Metal generates a detailed analysis of the conversation, so you know exactly what to keep and what to change before the real meeting.

> [accordion] Meeting Overview
>
> A summary of how the call went: what was covered, where the conversation spent most of its time, and the overall impression you're likely to have left.

> [accordion] What Worked
>
> The answers and moments that landed well, with specific examples from the call, so you know which parts of your pitch to keep.

> [accordion] Understanding the Investor
>
> How well you tailored your pitch to this particular investor. It covers whether you spoke to their thesis, anticipated their concerns and framed your story around what they care about.

> [accordion] Areas to Improve
>
> Where your answers were vague, unconvincing or missed what the investor was really asking, with specific suggestions on how to sharpen them.

> [accordion] Next Steps
>
> Concrete recommendations to act on before the real meeting, from reworking particular answers to bringing data in earlier or restructuring your opening.

The full transcript sits alongside the analysis, so you can go back to any part of the conversation.

> [!TIP]
>
> Rework the answers flagged under Areas to Improve, then run the call again. Every session stays on the Mock Calls page, so you can track how your answers improve before the real meeting.
